Pyrography and Wood Engraving on Wood Panel. Custom Frame
Dream Portal started out as a figure drawing created from the live model. When I returned to my studio I decided to use “Pyrography” – a wood burning technique to paint or burn in the design. Some light stain was then used to bring out the coloring of the wood in certain areas.
The frame was handmade from old mouldings that I found in the attic of my studio in Amityville, NY. All the wood on the front of the frame was designed in the computer and engraved using an Epilogue laser engraver. I imagine that the blank water in the distance is the perfect place to contemplate what dreams may come for you. I encourage you to sit for a while alongside this lovely mermaid and allow your greatest dreams to manifest themselves into reality!
